Niek Klazinga (project advisor)

Prof. Emer. Niek Klazinga is an internationally recognized expert in health system performance assessment and quality of care. He is Professor Emeritus of Social Medicine at the University of Amsterdam and has played a key role in advancing international approaches to measuring and improving health system performance.

For many years, Niek was the strategic lead of the Health Care Quality and Outcomes Programme at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In this role, he led efforts to establish international benchmarks for health system performance and quality indicators, supporting policymakers worldwide in using data-driven insights to enhance healthcare effectiveness, efficiency, and equity.

Although retired from his full-time academic and policy roles, Niek remains an advisor to the OECD and continues to supervise a few PhD students. He is actively engaged in international collaborations focused on improving health system governance and quality of care.

As an advisor to HealthIntelAct, Niek brings his extensive experience in health system intelligence and performance assessment to guide the next generation of researchers in developing innovative approaches for evidence-based decision-making in health and care.
