Martina is a recently graduated biostatistician with a master’s degree in Statistical Sciences, Health and Population Analytics from Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, and a bachelor’s degree in Management Statistics from Sapienza University of Rome, both awarded with honours. She is interested in applying statistical modelling to health data to enhance quality of care and support evidence-based decision-making.

During her PhD, she will be involved in raising awareness about the importance of cancer screening among the Romanian population, fostering a trusting and collaborative relationship between individuals, physicians, and researchers to identify barriers and co-design actionable screening strategies.

During the last few months, she has been contributing to the REWINDER project, where she analysed administrative, clinical, and patient-reported data (PROMs) to evaluate diabetes care in the Emilia-Romagna region before and after COVID-19. For her master’s thesis, she compared multivariate risk models and confirmed the strong, bidirectional link between glycaemic control and psychological well-being in diabetes. The work highlighted the importance of integrating PROMs into treatment strategies to advance holistic, personalised, biopsychosocial approaches to care.

Recent contributions include co-authoring an oral presentation at the XXV AMD (Associazione Medici Diabetologi) National Congress on the multidimensional evaluation of diabetes care, as well as a poster presentation at the XXV National Congress of the AIP (Associazione Italiana di Psicologia), Clinical and Dynamic Psychology Section, on the co-occurrence of type 2 diabetes, depressive symptoms, and diabetes distress.

Motivated by the potential of data analysis to make a tangible difference in people’s lives, she is looking forward to contributing to research that strengthens health systems and promotes equitable, people-centred care.
