
Dr. Adriana Pistol is professor of epidemiology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Carol Davila” Bucharest, primary medical epidemiologist, doctor of medical sciences – infectious diseases specialty, head of discipline – Epidemiology II Discipline – Preclinical Department 3 Complementary Sciences, within the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, master in Public Health and Health Management, Knight Order of Health Merit – Presidential Decree, Order of Health Merit in the rank of officer – Presidential Decree. December 2022 until present she acts as secretary of state in the Romanian Ministry of Health, coordinating the General Directorate of Public Health and Health Programs within the Ministry of Health.
Since 2005 she has been acting as National Focal Point for Training at European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and she accredited the National Center for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases as EPIET training site. From 2005 to 2022 she was the Director of the National Center for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases, within the National Institute of Public Health, Bucharest, having as main responsibilities the organization and coordination of the Center for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases as the national surveillance structure in Romania. In the same time, since 2010 to 2014 she was Director General of the National Institute of Public Health, Bucharest. She also worked as temporary adviser for WHO and at the moment she is a member of Standing Committee of Regional Committee (SCRC) for WHO Europe, acting as Chair SCRC in 2024.
During her professional carrier she participated in many research projects such as FP7 in the field of epidemiology and she published around 90 scientific articles with a Hirsch index of 11.
