Ayshe Seyfulayeva is a public health researcher specializing in participatory approaches, health literacy, and patient engagement. She holds an MSc in Public Health from NOVA University of Lisbon, where her thesis focused on a scoping review of health literacy interventions with migrant communities. She recently published a scoping review, in BMJ Open Quality, on patient and family engagement for enhancing perioperative safety.
She has worked as a researcher at the National School of Public Health, NOVA University of Lisbon contributing to several EU-funded projects. In JACARDI, she co-created health literacy interventions with migrant communities using creative research method such as Photovoice and followed participatory approach called OPHELIA. She also contributed to the SAFEST project, focused on improving patient safety and perioperative care.
Alongside her research, Ayshe has supported scientific events such as the WHO European Public Health Leadership Course, 1st WHO Autum School on Quality of Care and Patient Safety and the 2nd World Congress on Migration, Ethnicity, Race & Health. Her international experience includes a Blue Book traineeship at the European Commission in Brussels and a research internship at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan.
As a HealthIntelAct Fellow, Ayshe will pursue doctoral research on cultural safety performance intelligence to address racism and discrimination in healthcare services, aiming to strengthen inclusivity, accessibility, and safety of health services for affected groups.
