

For her first secondment, Martina Mencarelli joined the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) in Bucharest and is working in close collaboration with the ROCCAS – Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme in Romania team and the Health Promotion team. Her work on colorectal cancer in Romania is currently covering avoidable mortality inequalities and barriers to screening participation, with the aim of establishing baseline measures for health system performance and generating actionable evidence to support the development of targeted, equity-focused outreach strategies. As part of this secondment, Martina also organised a stakeholder consultation meeting with experts from public health, clinical care, and policy to discuss the Romanian context of colorectal cancer prevention, early detection, and health system challenges.
